- Attention runs on Wikipedia + Reddit + internal counters; sentiment coverage drops and is reported as reduced coverage, not silently narrowed. Within this source the two hosts are each other's fallback: the search index is the ingestion path, and the Firebase item API still answers the same questions at ~140× the request cost, so a search outage is a degradation and not an absence.

- Sentiment falls back to Hacker News alone, which is the state this source exists to leave: every row returns to `single_community`, `disagreement` returns to `null` with `insufficient_independent_sources`, and the World Conditions hero says so in its own words rather than blanking. That is a narrowing the product already renders honestly, and it is why this source's absence is a degradation and never an outage.
